But it’s also a time when home safety is especially important. With all the hustle and bustle of holiday travel, gift-giving, decorating, and entertaining, it can be easy to forget that your home may be at risk of burglary or other holiday-related crimes. Here are six simple tips to help keep your home safe this holiday season. Secure Your Doors and Windows First and foremost, make sure all doors and windows are locked securely before you leave the house. This includes garage doors, side doors, back doors, and patio doors—any door or window that could provide intruder access to your home should be locked tightly. You should also consider installing motion sensors near any potential entry points so that you’ll know if someone is trying to enter your home while you’re not there. Invest in Security Systems Investing in a quality security system can go a long way toward keeping your home safe during the holidays. There are several different types of systems available to choose from including surveillance cameras and alarm systems. Whether you opt for a basic system with just one camera or invest in more advanced options with multiple cameras, having a security system will give you peace of mind while away from your home during the holidays. Light Up Your Home One way to deter burglars is to make sure that your house looks occupied by leaving lights on when you’re away from home. Consider installing outdoor lighting around the perimeter of your house as well as motion sensor lights that will turn on when someone approaches the property. You can also install timers or automatic light switches inside the house so that lights turn on and off randomly while you’re away; this helps create an illusion of occupancy even when no one is there. Install Smart Locks Smart locks are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and ability to offer an added layer of security for homeowners when they’re away from their homes. These devices allow users to lock/unlock their doors remotely via smartphone apps or voice commands given through devices such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home Hubs. They can also detect when someone tries to break into your house and alert authorities immediately if necessary. Utilize Vacation Watch Programs Most cities have vacation watch programs where police officers will check on houses while owners are out of town for extended periods of time over the holidays (or any other time). Contact your local police department for more information about vacation watch programs in your area; they may even be able to provide additional tips on how best to secure your property while away from home during the holidays. Share Knowledge With Neighbors Finally, make sure to share knowledge about safety with neighbors who may not have taken steps like these yet—especially those living nearby who may not have thought about it yet. Knowing what safety measures people take (or don’t take) can help everyone stay safe during the holidays—and all year round. The holidays should be a fun and enjoyable time – but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take precautions when it comes to protecting our homes against potential burglars or intruders looking for an opportunity presented by busy schedules. By following these simple tips, moms everywhere can rest assured knowing their homes are secure during this special season. Happy Holidays!
