This is especially true for the laundry room, where clothes, cleaning supplies, and other household items typically pile up. But an organized laundry room makes things easier to find and can reduce your overall stress levels. The following tips will help you to get your laundry room organized. Use laundry baskets Instead of piling clothes and towels in the same baskets, organize your laundry by keeping them separated in the laundry room. Every family has a different system when it comes to doing laundry-some wash all whites, some do each family member separately, etc. Many people find it helpful to put laundry baskets in each family member’s room and then sort it in the laundry room. Keep baskets for whites, darks, towels, and linens in the laundry room. This will help you to keep things better contained and organized. Utilize counter space If you have a counter or table in your laundry room, keep it free of clutter and other things and save the space for folding laundry. If you find that clutter such as pencils, tape, and other knick-knacks tend to gather on the counter, find a drawer for them, or put them in a basket or bin. Add baskets and shelves Shelving is a great way to keep the laundry room organized. If you don’t have built-in shelves, you can purchase wire shelving in a variety of sizes inexpensively. Use them to store cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, any extra laundry products from places like thelaundress.com that you may have, dryer sheets, your iron, and so forth. Keep the shelves themselves organized with bins. Cabinets are a good idea for storing things as well. If you have the budget for it, consider installing a few wall cabinets. You can close them to hide the contents, and it’s a good way to keep cleaning supplies and detergent away from kids and pets. You should also have a wastebasket in your laundry room for dryer lint, dryer sheets, and other trash that tends to accumulate in a laundry room. Purchase wall organizers Many people store their cleaning supplies in the laundry room as well. This includes mops, dustpans, and brooms. Instead of tossing them in the corner, you can purchase wall hooks that will hold these items and keep them organized and easy to find. It will not only keep the room tidy but it will also help you know where everything is located. When looking for an ironing board, you will want to decide ahead of time if you want to get a wall mount for it or if you would rather purchase an ironing board that has a built in mount. Since it is a larger item that will take up quite a bit of wall space, be sure to plan both where and how to hang it before mounting any other organizers. Set a laundry schedule and stick to it Your laundry room will become disorganized and overrun with laundry in no time if you let clothes pile up and get behind on your laundry. Make it a point to do a load a day, or schedule certain days for certain clothes; for example, towels on Sundays, darks on Tuesdays, and so forth. Make use of what space you have You may not have a lot of room in your laundry room, or you find that the washer and dryer take up the majority of the space. You can still be organized in small spaces. Use taller laundry baskets that don’t take up as much floor space, or use bags that can be collapsed. Use the tops of the washer and dryer as space to fold once the clothes are done, and store things in bins and baskets. You can install shelving inexpensively on the walls for things like detergent.
