It’s like you haven’t really read anything at all. You try to concentrate, but it’s easier said than done. So, is there anything you can do? Fortunately, there is. Here are some tips on how to improve your concentration. Eat well It will be far more difficult to focus if you don’t eat your breakfast. However, try making it a balanced one, since overeating might lead to discomfort and sleepiness. A healthy combination of carbohydrates and proteins could be perfect for you. Furthermore, make sure your body gets enough vitamins for optimal brain function. Also, don’t forget to drink plenty of water, since dehydration may make it hard to concentrate. Exercise It could be extremely difficult to focus when your body is tired or unhealthy. Your physical well-being has a lot to do with your mental state, as well as the ability to concentrate. So, exercise daily, which will improve your overall health, allow you to stay fit and maintain a healthy weight, but also get your blood pumping through your body and increase oxygen flow to the brain, making it easier to concentrate. Get enough rest In order for your brain to function properly, it needs to be well-rested. If you don’t get enough sleep, your thoughts may appear scattered and focusing on the tasks in front of you might prove to be almost impossible. So, you need to figure out just how much sleep you need and try to establish a regular sleeping routine. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, might help you concentrate. Bear in mind that, just like not getting enough sleep, sleeping too much might block your concentration. Listen to music Listening to music is a habit that is usually pleasurable, relaxing and one that can improve our mood. For those reasons, it can also help us concentrate. It doesn’t even have to be real music. If you prefer listening to the sounds of nature while working, go for it, since it might enhance your cognitive skills. Any type of music that you enjoy will do, especially classical music. And if you find song lyrics distracting, opt for music without lyrics. Investing in high-resolution in-ear headphones might be a good idea, since they can be noise-cancelling and you can even take your phone calls with them. Plus, that way, you’ll make sure your music doesn’t bother any of your coworkers. Take frequent breaks Spending too much time on the same project can make you nervous and destroy your focus. Your brain’s processing power will weaken if it has to stay focused for hours at a time. So, make a daily schedule for yourself and include several breaks in it. Taking a short break every hour or so might help you regain your concentration and keep you fresh and active. Use the break to chat with your coworkers, have a snack or take a power nap. Deal with distractions Things like traffic noise or loud coworkers can interfere with your concentration. If possible, find a way to avoid those distractions. For example, close your windows or doors, use earplugs, and try isolating yourself. Sign out of your Facebook or Twitter account, turn off your notifications, and put your phone on silent mode. However, this isn’t always possible, which leaves you with the second option – ignoring distractions. There will always be things that can turn you away from your work, but it’s your job not to let them. Disregard these distractions and keep focusing on the assignment in front of you. Helping yourself concentrate can mean the world to you when you have a task to do and not too much time to do it. So, find the best possible way to improve your focus and get things done exactly when they need to be done.
