Basketball and Entertainment with the Harlem Globetrotters Amy Smith, March 28, 2019December 28, 2022 Harlem Globetrotters Tradition Passed Down Ok, I have a confession. I am a very nostalgic person. I am of the mind that the cartoons when I was a kid are far better than any offered today, our toys were cooler even though not as technologically advanced and the stuff we did was just, well better. I am the one who when on family vacations has to stop by that one “cool” store that has all the shirts, cups, and collectibles from my childhood. One of my favorite things is when I can bring a piece of my childhood to my children and they enjoy it as well. Now admittedly it doesn’t happen often, but when it does it is DYNAMITE! One of these explosions of memories came recently as our family went to see the Harlem Globetrotters 2019 Fan Powered Tour! We are basketball fans as a family but as a kid I can remember watching the Globetrotters on Saturdays and was stoked to take my boys (and a friend) to see the most famous basketball team in the world! Before we attended the game itself, we enjoyed some pre-game fun with the Magic Passes. I would highly recommend the Magic Passes. You and your children will have the opportunity to learn some tricks and meet the players. They can interact with the players, take pictures, and have the players sign their autographs on whatever your child brings (or buys). Just as I fondly remembered, the evening was filled with some high flying basketball action! From our rows countless “Ohhhhs!” and “Did you see that?” filled the evening. Beyond their obvious basketball talent, their amazing skills were put on display throughout the night. From numerous “highlight reel” passes, to trick shots, amazing dribbling to 4 point shots, if it could be done with a basketball, it was on display! Of course, there were several finger spins of that famous red white and blue ball as well. What sets the Harlem Globetrotters apart is the entertainment. From hilarious one-liners to constantly bantering with the refs, pranks on the opposing team and even a few on the crowd it will leave the crowd of all ages laughing throughout the night. As a parent, I appreciated as well that while extremely funny it was still very appropriate for my entire family, something that is getting harder and harder to do these days. As we left our ride home was filled with laughter and stories of our favorite events of the night. More importantly, we left with another amazing night of memories not just for me, but our kids as well. I am sure this is true because even now as I write this my 12-year-old is beside me wearing, of course, his Harlem Globetrotters t-shirt! I have a strong suspicion that my grandkids one day just might go watch the Globetrotters just like their dad and granddad did! Whether you are a basketball fan or looking for a super family friendly entertaining evening, I can’t think of a better way to spend it than with the Harlem Globetrotters. We took my son to see the Globetrotters a few years ago. It was a ton of fun and we were also yelling “ohhhh, ahhh, wowwww” the entire time! I wouldn’t hesitate to see them again if they were back in town. Definitely a memorable experience for the whole family.
This looks like an amazing experience! Such great memorable moments for your kids! Thanks for sharing this with us, and lovely photos btw 😉
The Globetrotters bring back such great memories of my childhood and my grandmother. She was an avid basketball fan, but really adored the Globetrotters for their fun style and quirky tricks. I had the opportunity to take my family to see this last year and it was amazing to get the chance. If they come to your town I advise anyone to go and not miss out!
