Carowinds Camp Wilderness – Stay AT Carowinds

Perks to Staying at Carowinds Camp Wilderness

Living two hours away from Carowinds has spoiled us over the years. My husband and I both had the opportunity to come for the day with our youth groups and friends as teenagers. Now, we come for the day to have fun with our own children! In all the years past, we really missed it! We missed the chance to make Carowinds more than just a day trip. Have you ever thought of STAYING at Carowinds? Now you can at Carowinds Camp Wilderness!

The Sleeping Options

Carowinds Camp Wilderness has a variety of options depending on your finances as well as your desires. You can go for a traditional tent camping experience, low cost, and a very natural experience. You could always opt for an RV site if you have your own RV or plan to rent one. Next up, you could do like we did… rent a cabin at Camp Wilderness.

For those of you who like your AC, your own bathroom, kitchenette, and beds for everyone like we do, well… the cabin is a great option. The cabin sleeps eight with a futon, a double bed in one bedroom, and two sets of bunk beds (4 beds total) in a second bedroom.

Park Perks

Living two hours away, we typically have to get up by 6 am for everyone to get ready, eat breakfast, get out the door, and get to Carowinds Park by the time it opens at 10 am. Then we drive back after the park closes, usually around 10 pm. That puts us getting home after midnight. Already being exhausted from a full day of fun usually makes that drive home seem extra long. NOT when you are staying within sight of the park! We could sleep in, get to bed at a decent time, and even come back during the day for five-year-old to take a quick nap!

Another perk is parking. Carowinds Camp Wilderness guests receive a parking pass that is good for the campground and the parking at Carowinds. We don’t HAVE to drive though since the campground has a shuttle to take us from Camp Wilderness to the park entrance. How convenient is THAT?!

Although Carowinds has their own waterpark (Carolina Harbor) which is amazing, there are times when you may want a little slower pace but still want to enjoy the cooldown that a pool brings.

    • Discounted park tickets for registered guests
    • Trading Post with General Store
    • Picnic Tables at each site
    • Bathroom facility with hot showers
    • Swimming pool (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend)
    • Sand Volleyball Court
    • Shuffleboard and Cornhole
    • Free linen exchange service
    • 24-hour security

Our boys (and my big boy, AKA my husband) really enjoyed the Pac-Man game at the trading post, too!

Carowinds Camp Wilderness

We have loved staying at the Carowinds Camp Wilderness. We have enjoyed the campground itself and the convenience of staying overnight so close to the park! Next time you are planning your little getaway or even a full vacation, think Camp Wilderness!
