Camping in Bhandardara Amy Smith, February 13, 2022February 13, 2022 Camping in Bhandardara Bhandardara is a vacation resort town near Igatpuri, in the western ghats of India. The hamlet is located in the Akole tehsil, Ahmednagar neighborhood of the state of Maharashtra, about 185 kilometers (115 mi) from Mumbai and 155 kilometers (96 mi) from Ahmednagar. Bhandardara sits by the Pravara River, and the natural terrain, falls, mountains, Wilson levee, Arthur lake, and Randha falls are sightseer lodestones. Bhandardara lodestones include Wilson Dam and Arthur Lake. The recent magnet in this place is the Fireflies camp in the Purushwadi area. There are a number of major and natural places of interest near the levee. From Bhandardara, callers can climb up to see the Ratangad and Harishchandragad castles. Or callers can follow the trails that lead to Ajoba and Ghanchakkar peaks. The loftiest peak in Maharashtra, Mount Kalsubai is 1646 m, and the starting point for this journey is Bari Village, located 12 km down from Bhandardara. Atop, there’s a small tabernacle located at the peak, with views of Sahyadris and Bhandardara. The toughest triad- castles in Sahyadri videlicet Alang Fort, Mandangad stronghold, and Kulang gad ( also called A-M-K) located on the southern side. A veritably narrow Sandhan vale is on the Western side of the levee Bhandardara is home to Mount Kalsubai, the loftiest peak ( ft or m) in Maharashtra. Another sightseer magnet is the Wilson Levee on the Pravara River, which was erected in 1910. The Umbrella Falls also draw callers, although it can be seen only during the showers between July and October. About 10 km down from Shendi Village is the Randha Falls. The Ratangad stronghold is around 22 km from Shendi/ Bhandardara and is connected by both highways, and a ferry across Lake Arthur. On the Kalsubai side, at the far end of a 22 km thruway across timbers and ethical townlets, is Konkankada from where there are views of the plains. Harishchandragad is another nearby mountain hiking spot with ancient tabernacles on top. Bhandardara has a number of touring and hiking routes, including a small journey to Ratangad stronghold, which is reached by boat over a small lake near the village Ratanwadi. Ratanwadi is known for its boat lifts. Ratangad is a fort positioned at the edge of ghats with a number of water tuns and grottoes. It also commands views from around and is said to be the favorite stronghold of the Maratha king, Shivaji. Also known as Bhandardara Dam, it’s the largest earthen levee in India and gets its water from the Pravara River. You can visit the theater at the base of the levee, which offers stunning views of the architectural phenomenon and it’s one of the stylish places to visit in Bhandardara. Bhandardara is a lovely hill station for someone who needs a quiet flight. While it’s a given trekking destination, there are relatively many sightseeing options too in Bhandardara. The Arthur Lake, Wilson Dam, Umbrella Falls, and Randha Falls are many places one must visit then. Beginning from October to February, the downtime season is the most judicious time for a visit to Bhandardara. The temperatures then fall to nearly 10 degrees C. This cozy rainfall woos excursionists from near metropolises (Mumbai and Pune) for spending a day or two amidst lush verdure and peaceful surroundings. Umbrella Falls The Umbrella Falls are the cascade formed under the Wilson Dam and the force by which the falls on the naturally placed jewels gives a print of a marquee. Wilson Dam The Wilson Dam, erected on the Pravara swash in 1910 is the largest earthen levee in India which speaks of the engineering excellence of those days. The base of the levee has a theater that boasts thick verdure, huge trees, and little aqueducts. Kalsubai Peak Mt. Kalsubai is the loftiest peak of the Sahyadri Ranges. It’s also known as the Everest of Maharashtra, as it’s the loftiest peak in the state. Randha Falls Another cascade magnet in Bhandardara is the Randha Falls of the Pravara swash. The clear water of the Pravara swash ferociously falls from a height of 170ft into a magnificent notch. Still, this cascade is only seductive in the showers. Ratanwadi Village Ratanwadi is a villa near Bhandardara of the Kalsubai peak in Maharashtra that houses the notorious Ratangad stronghold and the popular Shiva tabernacle called Amruteshwar.
