How to Show Appreciation to Kids Amy Smith, February 6, 2023September 19, 2023 How to Show Appreciation to Your Kids Image Source: Freepik Bringing up kids is one of the most challenging tasks in the world. As parents, you have to raise modest children who know how to work hard and stay humble about their accomplishments. For this, it can be helpful to let your children know that you’re proud of them. However, since there is no set rule or guide for parenting, it sometimes gets complicated for parents to strike that balance between making the kids feel good about themselves and leaving them insufferably arrogant. Thus, in this article, we’ve shared three ways to find the right balance between praise and expression of pride while complimenting the child’s accomplishments. Praise Them for Little Things Children are naturally curious beings; thus, they try doing multiple things while growing up. However, some are important and matter more than others. Therefore, as parents, you are responsible for praising them for things that matter and will help them further in their life. For instance, if they practice a good habit for a long time, reward them, so they feel motivated to follow it further. There are multiple ways to do it. You can give them a college diploma roll that mentions their name and achievement. Later, you can hang it in their room. Such small rewards represent your appreciation and trust in the child’s abilities. It helps them find a reason and be confident in their actions. Also, ensure to never over-praise your child, or you may unintentionally raise an arrogant and rude kid. Let them earn their appreciation. Talk About Their Obstacles Accomplishing something also means the child has to overcome certain obstacles throughout the process. It may include putting in extra practice hours or sacrificing their time with friends to prepare for their exams or hone other skills. Thus, it would help if you spoke with them about the obstacles they had to face. It gives them the self confidence that their actions are being watched and that hard work is noticed for a long time. It can act as a form of appreciation for them, suggest experts. Knowing that their parents care about them spikes their faith. As a result, they put in efforts more consciously and sincerely in everything that they come across in their lives. Express Confidence In their Abilities One of the effective ways to show appreciation to your kids is by expressing confidence in their abilities. Bragging about their accomplishments can assure them that you’re happy with their success and that they should be. However, make sure not to do it over since it can make them feel arrogant or instill a negative attitude to not work harder. Parents should constantly appreciate them for their efforts while encouraging them to strive for more. Bottom Line There is a thin line between praising your child and making them feel boasted about it. To strike the right balance, you must understand that difference. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for this. You may have to try different things and then stick to those that work best for your child. Share on FacebookTweetFollow usSave Parenting Tips
