Fun Locations to Visit When You Have a Free Afternoon

Maybe you’re a workaholic looking for a break. Maybe you’ve just moved to a new city, and you’re wondering where and how you should go exploring. Maybe you’re trying to plan a day out with friends or family and you can’t decide where to go that will give you an enjoyable time. Whatever your reasons for thinking about fun locations to visit in your free time, here are a few options for you to consider.

Museum

If you think museums are boring, stuffy places that might be a great place for a nap, you haven’t been to the right museums. While traditional museums can also be a great time, there are also plenty of places that take a fun, more dynamic approach to learning new things and delving into the cultures and peoples of the past. Living history museums, for example, have costumed staffers who lead tours and give demonstrations entirely in character. Interactive museums have hands-on exhibits and 3D displays that encourage visitors to fully engage in history with all of their senses. If you have young children, this might be a great option to get them to really engage in a great time while also learning a lot.

Park

Being outdoors has numerous health benefits. Not only will the exercise be good for your waistline, but the fresh air and sunshine can support things like mood, energy levels, immune function, vitamin absorption, and even cognitive ability. There are also plenty of fun things to do at a park. Even if you don’t want to go jogging, you can enjoy a picnic, listen to buskers, and watch the birds. You might even be able to catch an outdoor performance like “Shakespeare in the Park.”

Cafe

Cafes are great in-between places where you can be both social and solitary at the same time. They’ll let you get out of the house for a while but also focus on your own thing if you want to work, write, study, or just play games on your phone. Cafes are also nice for trying new things in a low-pressure environment. For example, if you’re at a coffee shop, somewhere like the Gravity Coffee Company, that specializes in new or gourmet brews, or just really fun drinks you might want to try, you can expand your horizons by ordering a cup. It’s an easy way to be adventurous without having to go skydiving or mountain climbing.

Mall

A good mall can be an all-in-one shopping experience. Whether you’re looking for high-end fashion or cheap toys and trinkets, you’ll find everything under one roof. Depending on the location, you might also be able to snack at a food court, see animals at an aquarium, or catch the latest blockbuster at a movie theater. There can be a lot of entertainment options at the mall.

These are just a few ways to have fun and enjoy yourself in your spare time. There are many more, of course, but this list should be enough to kick-start your imagination and get you thinking about cool things to do in your city.
