Build your guest list

Think about who the party is for and who you want to attend. Are you planning a milestone birthday party, an anniversary party, or a party just because you can? Consider the size of your party. 

Find a venue

The venue doesn’t have to be fancy. It could literally be your backyard. You could also rent a space. If you’re serving food, you’ll need access to a kitchen. 

Choose a theme

The theme may be the best part of party planning. Are you planning a party for kids, teens, or adults? Maybe it’s a mixed age group. Pinterest and the internet are full of great party theme ideas. 

Send invitations

Invitations can simply be printed at Costco. Perhaps you have time and love to create, you could also make the invitations. If you choose to make the invitations, you can really personalize them. You can include the party colors. 

Select music and decorations

Music and decorations matter. You may not be hosting a dance party, but everyone loves a little background music. It could be “elevator music” or something else. Maybe you’re hosting a 90’s party so play popular music from the 90’s with a fun 90’s themed custom flag for personalized themed decor.  The decorations should be unique and match the party theme. 

Decide the menu

Pretty much any party has a menu. Sometimes, depending on the time of day, you may not serve a full lunch or dinner. It may be more like snacks and finger foods. Do you want your menu to match your theme or are you just providing something for people to munch on? 

Give your guests something to do

Standing around visiting can be nice, but having games or something to do will make your party more enjoyable. Your activities could be planned and organized. You could also have lawn games or a place for kids to play. What kid, or adult for that matter, doesn’t love a good slip n’ slide in the summer or a good sledding hill in the winter?

Play the Encanto soundtrack. Give out Encanto related party favors such as pencils, small toys, and Encanto themed party bags. Have an Encanto themed cake. You could purchase one or, if you’re ambitious, find an idea from Pinterest and make one yourself. Have a pinata and other games like tag and limbo. 

Ice cream social

Ice cream is a must at parties. Why not make your party all about the ice cream and host an ice cream social. Offer many ice cream flavors. Keep in mind some people prefer dairy free ice cream, have gluten issues, or are vegan, so also offer an alternative. You could have an ice cream tasting contest, pin the cherry on the ice cream cone, or build a sundae while blindfolded.

Lego themed party

Who doesn’t love legos? For a lego party, you can decorate with lego decor. This could include foam rectangles as lego bricks fastened together to create a homemade party banner. Serve lego cake pops. Have a lego building contest. Play a Minute to Win It game and see how fast the kids can put together their own lego creations.

Scavenger Hunt Party

Scavenger hunts are a blast! If your teens drive, you could have a scavenger hunt finding things all over town. Foam Party

This will be messy but totally worth it! You’ll need to find a large outdoor space to pull this party off. All you need is soapy water, water guns, and light sticks. You can find hundreds of light sticks on Amazon.

Masquerade Party

Masquerade, Masquerade! Do you have a Phantom of the Opera fan? Why not host a masquerade ball? This will take some effort, but  if you time it right, the kids may still have their tuxes and dresses from prom. You could have a mask making party or have the kids make their masks ahead of time. Find the perfect ballroom music and a venue where you could dance.

This is a perfect summer party. Have your guests come in Hawaiian attire. Host the party at yours or a friend’s pool. Use patio lights and blow up some large palm trees for decoration. 

Come as You Were

Pick a time, like your high school graduation or the day you started your first job. Then have your guest come in what they would’ve been wearing on that day.
