Foster Care Movie, Instant Family
I had heard great things about the movie, “Instant Family”. Many people know our story and after seeing it in theaters, told us we needed to be sure to watch it. Sometimes, you see movies that are very specific to a topic such as a war movie or even a romance movie and you KNOW that it is so far from what would really happen. The producers of Instant Family hit the nail on the head!
Our family is made up of my husband, myself, our 16-year-old son (who was adopted at birth), our very soon to be 12-year-old boy (who was also adopted at birth), and then our 5 (almost 6) year old daughter (who was one of our first foster children). When she came to us, we had another little girl who was 5 years old living with us. We have had several foster children since and will most likely have more as time passes.
We too have dealt with some highs and lows of foster parenting. There are times we have wanted to give up because it just seemed too hard. With our daughter, it was a pure nightmare for the first couple of months. She hated my husband and any man who came within a football field from her. We wanted to give up a few times because it was so hard.
Thank, God we never gave up! She is a Daddy’s girl at its finest and fits in our family perfectly. I can totally relate to this movie. The movie had more language than what we typically are comfortable with but the storyline was so relatable to us!
The heartwarming film, inspired by the real events from the life of writer/director Sean Anders, follows Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) as they decide to start a family and stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, Pete and Ellie must hilariously try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hopes of becoming a family. INSTANT FAMILY also stars Octavia Spencer, Tig Notaro, and Margo Martindale.
