Most Romantic Island in the Caribbean

Travel agents and holiday specialists have heard that recurring question from couples just too often: “Which one of all the Caribbean destinations is best for a romantic getaway?”.

romantic island

The truth is that just about any tropical island in the Caribbean can provide a perfect setting for a really fun vacation. However, the needs of a couple versus those of a family differ are every way. No lovebirds need – or want – to be sucked in a crowded beach, to share the pool with hundreds of children screaming and splashing water all around, or being kept up all night by a bunch of spring-breakers.

Seclusion, privacy, luxury, and quietness are most often what honeymooners or couples of all ages crave. Of course, ideally, you would simply rent your very own island, but of course, since this is probably not an option for you, here are a few of the most romantic islands for couples, based on their level of seclusion, and privacy, glamour, and affordability.

This fascinating island, close to Nevis, was initially colonized by pioneers from Ireland in the 1700s. In the ’70s, this island became the one celebrity retreat. Unfortunately, two volcanic eruptions in the 90s destroyed the capital city, Plymouth. Today, Montserrat is rebuilding and trying to bump up its tourism industry and has been opening again to travel and leisure. Couples choosing this unique vacation destination can certainly expect to see spectacular sights, exquisite black-sand beaches (a by-product of volcanic ashes), in addition to quality scuba diving. Also, because of the low number of tourists, couples will often find to have the beaches to themselves (or almost!).

If you are tired of the black-sand beach, you can visit the only white-sand seashore or the island, Rendezvous Bay. If you are willing to take a little hike, the reward is big: amazing swimming, diving, and snorkeling area.

This Caribbean island is a delight at every turn. Tiny Antigua is only 14 miles long and 11 miles wide, yet it comprises a surprising number of beaches (365 according to the brochures) that are mostly protected from the rough waves in coves, which makes it a perfect spot for snorkeling and diving. This island is simply divine for honeymooners who can see mind-blowing views anywhere they look: views of the sea, the cliffs, or the tropical landscapes.

St. Lucia

The World Travel Awards (WTA) give some of the biggest and the most prestigious awards programs in the travel industry worldwide. And this year, the only Caribbean landmark for “Most Romantic Places to Propose This Leap Year” was the St. Lucia Pitons. These two volcanic plugs provide a spectacular view from the seashore during the daytime. And talking about the panorama, it won’t get any better than from Anse Chastanet Resort, a real gem hidden high up on a forested hill.

St. Lucia is also a haven for water sports lovers. Its coastlines, particularly rich in marine diversity, including coral reefs, mangrove forests, a diversity of fish, and beach habitats provide a great location for some of the most popular activities on the island, including water skiing, snorkeling, and scuba-diving.

It’s no coincidence that all of the most romantic islands are close to a coral reef — the natural beauty of the Caribbean. The warm sea which bathes these glorious shorelines has that crystal look on which the Caribbean sun hits at full strength, displaying us those stunning shades of blues, greens, and turquoise waters.

So if you haven’t seen them yet and need a quiet and romantic where to spend your vacation with your other half, make sure to consider them.
