Physical Activities on Rainy Days to Keep Kids Busy Amy Smith, June 22, 2022April 6, 2024 Rainy days can be a drag, especially for kids. All they want to do is stay inside and play video games or watch TV. But this isn’t healthy, and it can get boring pretty quickly. Why not try some fun physical activities that will keep the kids busy and entertained? In this blog post, we will discuss several different activities that are perfect for a rainy day! Indoor scavenger hunt If you’re looking for a fun indoor activity for your kids, why not try a scavenger hunt? You can easily create one yourself by hiding a series of small objects around your house or apartment. To make it more challenging, you can give your children a list of items to find, or let them use their own creativity to come up with the items. If you have younger children, you may want to hide the items in easy-to-reach places. For older kids, you can make the scavenger hunt more difficult by hiding the items in harder-to-find locations. Indoor scavenger hunts are a great way to keep your kids entertained on a rainy day or cold winter afternoon. Plus, they’re a perfect opportunity to teach your kids about teamwork and problem-solving. Play “Sharks” Sharks is a childhood game where they pretend there are sharks on the floor and the child must keep from touching the floor for too long to prevent getting “bit by the shark”. You may not be ok with them jumping on your furniture but if you are ok with it, this is a great game to keep them occupied and active on rainy days. Dance Party When it’s raining outside and the kids are bouncing off the walls, it can be hard to know what to do. Why not have a dance party? It’s a great way to get everyone moving and burn off some energy. Plus, it’s a lot of fun! You can crank up the music and let the kids loose, or you can put on a family-friendly movie like “The Greatest Showman” or “Singin’ in the Rain” and dance along with the characters. Either way, you’re sure to get everyone laughing and moving. And when the sun comes out again, everyone will be ready to tackle the day ahead. Balloon Volleyball Who says you need to go outside to play volleyball? When it’s raining and you’re stuck inside, why not set up a balloon volleyball net in your living room? You can use furniture or tape to mark out the boundaries of the court, and any standard balloon will do for the ball. Just make sure you don’t let anyone spikes it too hard or you might end up with a broken lamp. If you really want to get competitive, you can even keep score like a real volleyball game. But however you choose to play, balloon volleyball is a fun way to pass the time on a rainy day. Hula Hoop If you’re looking for a fun way to get in a workout on a rainy day, bring the hula hoop inside. You’ll be surprised at how many calories you can burn while hula hooping in your living room. Plus, it’s a great way to stay active when you can’t get outside. And there’s no need to worry about getting the floor wet – just put down a towel or mat to protect your flooring. So next time it’s raining, don’t let the weather stop you from getting your exercise. Bring the hula hoop inside and have some fun. Sock Skating in the Kitchen Sock skating in the kitchen on a rainy day is the perfect way to beat cabin fever. All you need is a pair of socks and a slippery floor, and you’re good to go. Just make sure to keep clear of any obstacles, like chairs or table legs. And if you really want to get your heart racing, try sock skating while wearing a blindfold. Just be careful not to crash into anything! Physical fitness obstacle course As any parent knows, rainy days can be a challenge. Not only are kids stir-crazy from being cooped up indoors, but it can be tough to come up with activities that are both fun and educational. However, there’s no need to despair when the rain is falling. One great way to burn off some energy and promote physical fitness is to create an obstacle course in your own home. Use furniture, pillows, blankets, and whatever else you have on hand to create a series of fun challenges for your kids. They’ll love testing their limits, and you’ll love knowing that they’re getting some exercise even when they can’t go outside. So next time it rains, don’t let the bad weather get you down. Get creative and turn your home into an obstacle course! Crawling Races If your kids are starting to go stir-crazy, it’s time to get them up and moving. One great way to do this is to have a crawling race. This is a great activity for younger kids, and it’s a lot of fun for adults too. Just make sure to set up some boundaries so everyone knows where to start and finish. And if you want to make it more challenging, try setting up an obstacle course for the kids to crawl through. This is a great way to promote physical fitness and have some fun at the same time. These are just a few ideas to get you started. With a little imagination, you can come up with all sorts of fun and engaging physical activities to keep your kids busy on rainy days. So next time the weather takes a turn for the worse, don’t despair. Get up and get moving, and you’re sure to have a great time.
