It’s Not About the Dragonfly ~ Casting Your Cares on God

We have been struggling around our house for a while now. You see, I have a 10 year old animal loving little boy with an insect project due in two weeks. We have been “collecting” bugs for about two months now (and by collecting, I mean I have been collecting bugs and he has been setting them free). We need 25 and until yesterday we had 15! No biggie you may say, but we have to find the bugs who have already died of natural causes and haven’t been invaded by our friends, the ant family.

So, the last three days there has been a dragonfly taunting me on the driveway. I would drive past him, stop to get him and walk the fence while he laughed his flying little tush off at me. Well, this morning, I decided that he would be pinned on my, I mean my son’s science project board. I really hope my neighbors didn’t see me running up and down my driveway attacking my fence with a sandwich bag. I finally, and humbly might I add, gave up. I decided if he wanted to live that badly, he deserved to. And frankly I’m quite out of shape.

Problem: I still need a dragonfly. It’s the principle of the thing now.

Usher in the Holy Spirit. “Why don’t you ask The Father to help?” OK, I thought. So I prayed that He would help me catch that dragonfly. So I made a few more pointless laps and called it a morning. Still no dragonfly.

Fast forward a few hours, I’m on my way to pick up my sweet young men from school and what do you think I see laying in the middle of the road (never mind it’s in a blind curve) it’s a DRAGONFLY ! Just lying there (passed away of natural causes of course). So what did I do, you ask? I turned around and got my dragonfly.

Some may say it was a coincidence, but I know otherwise. My Father loves me and wants so badly to help me in every aspect of my life. Is having a dragonfly pinned on a board for a project a huge deal? Absolutely not! But we wanted one and God delivered. In I Peter 5:7 we aren’t instructed to cast our really big problems on God, He says to give Him all of them.

“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.”

Casting Your Cares On God

He cares for us in such an intimate way, it’s beyond my comprehension. It’s not always about the “dragonfly”, it is always about trust. It’s about realizing He wants to bless us. He wants to pour blessings out on us that we can’t imagine. Could it be that we have not because we ask not?
