How To Entertain A Newborn Amy Smith, April 4, 2020February 26, 2022 How To Entertain A Newborn Whether you’re a first time mom or second time mom, here are some steps to bring you and your baby closer! After you bring your bundle of joy home, you realize the hospital didn’t send directions, and you worry that you may not be properly fit to take on this new task! Follow the advice I have and in return become more comfortable about your abilities as far as being a mother. Here is your manual on how to entertain your newborn. Newborns see the center of the world as they look up at you with love in their eyes. Knowing these simple tasks just might be the answer to creating an unbreakable bond between you two. Games and Toys There are plenty of games that you can play along with your newborn. Just because newborns can’t speak or move around yet doesn’t mean they don’t want that interaction. Try playing little fun games such as “peek-a-boo,” and “this little piggy.” These might also be great games to play during diaper time if you have a fussy one. Get your baby’s eyes moving around by swinging rattlers in front of him, which can help with eye coordination. Grab a mat and lay the baby on his stomach while you do this. This is also a good exercise for the little one’s head helping prepare him for the day he’ll hold it up on his own. Reading and Song Time Read plenty of books to your baby! This is one person who you won’t have to worry about getting tired of hearing you talk. There are a ton of “my first” books out there designed to help your baby learn, as well as Move-Along books which refer to familiar baby rhymes such as “if you’re happy and you know it claps your hands!” BookRoo offers a subscription service where you can receive three sturdy baby board books every month. Each box includes an insert highlighting the books and offering exclusive details, like insights from authors and illustrators. This is a GREAT service to ask for as a gift from the grandparents at your baby shower or your child’s first Christmas! The subscription can be paid for by the year or even month to month. Dr. Seuss’s books are also a great way to start helping your little one think. Keep this up and it may help your baby in his early school years as well when his teacher starts the rhyming lessons! Give a nursery rhyme CD a try. If your little one fusses during bath time, turn it on and sing and dance with his arms and feet. Active Baby Healthy Brain Book is a good one for moms to read to help better understand how to best care for their baby’s physical and mental needs. The book provides 135 different massages, exercises, and activities you can do with your baby to help expand their minds and enrich their brain. This book will help you learn how to entertain your newborn. Allow Child to Feed Himself As your baby begins eating solid foods, eating can even be a time of entertainment. Babies will increase their fine motor skills as they learn to pick up Cheerios or Gerber Puffs. Picking the food up and then also getting it into their mouth can be a fun task for a baby. Then, as they get even bigger, they can start spoon-feeding themselves. The biggest key is to have a bib that will protect your baby’s clothing but also a bib that catches all the pieces they miss getting into their mouth. Believe me, you will be happy to not have a bunch of wasted food and a big mess all over the floor. The Abiie Ruby Wrap is a good bib that will both protect and catch your baby’s mess. A Deeper Connection Utilize these tips to help stimulate the baby’s brain and get him thinking! If you are a busy parent and don’t consider yourself able to do these tasks for time reasons, why not get a baby carrier? With a baby carrier, your little one can come along for the ride as you do the laundry, clean the kitchen, and do other chores. He will still get the stimulation from looking around at all his surroundings. This will also create a stronger bond for the two of you. Give this a try to allow baby and you to connect on a deeper level than you would with anyone else. So go ahead, take some time out and make some well-deserved quality time for you and yours!
