Tips for Finding the Right Childcare

Are You a Stay-at-Home Parent Returning to Work? Tips for Finding the Right Childcare

As a parent, your child is your most prized treasure. It’s a natural desire to do everything in your power to ensure their safety and happiness. That’s why many parents feel a certain level of anxiety at the thought of sending their children to daycare or in the care of another adult while they head back to work. If this is your current conundrum, understand that there are ways to find the right childcare to ease your fears and keep your child happy and safe.

Ask Other Parents for Referrals

Surely, there are other parents in your personal network. Ask around and find out if anyone has any recommendations. Most parents work outside of the home to provide for the families. When you get your recommendations, always consider the sources. What works for one friend might not work for you. However, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Contact a Childcare Agency

Consider using a nanny agency to find the nanny of your dreams. When you go through an agency, you’re able to specify the traits you’re looking for and customize your request. The agency representative reviews and looks at their pool of potential applicants to find the right match for you. Plus, most agencies do the heavy lifting for you (background checks, interviews, etc.).

Do Multiple Interviews

You can conduct multiple interviews with different applicants within a specific time frame. During the first round of interviews, meet in a public place. Once you have a good understanding of who you’d like to move forward with, hold second interviews with you, the applicant and your child. Once you’ve made your final decision, invite the nanny to your house to get acclimated to the place. During the first round of interviews, make sure you tell the applicants if you have pets and other traits that might deter them.

Do Background Checks

Just because a person smiles in your face doesn’t mean they’re trustworthy. When you conduct a background check, you can get a better understanding of the person’s character. If they’ve been in trouble with the law before, it might be an indication that you shouldn’t move forward with the applicant. Don’t skip this step because it involves the safety of your child.

As you implement these four tips, understand that no one can replace you as their parent. However, the right person will love and care for your child in a way that makes you feel at ease. Trust the process and trust your gut. As long as you do your research and follow these tips, you’ll be just fine when it’s time to head off to work.

  1. We did a ton of research before finally selecting a daycare – we asked other parents, our pediatrician, did visits, and checked their state inspection records.

  2. It is very important to find the correct childcare. These are all good tips.
