Balancing Act: How to Stay Healthy Amidst Holiday Feasts Amy Smith, December 5, 2023September 3, 2024 Over the holidays, people often feel guilty about dabbling in the pleasures of the season, but the reality is that it can be a great time to treat yourself and enjoy holiday goodies and feasts that you don’t get to enjoy all year long. However, if you are someone who cares about staying healthy, here are a few tips to help you stay healthy while also enjoying the season’s feasts: Invest in meal prep services If you want to be sure to counterbalance your holiday feasts with more nutritional options, look into local meal prep services. This may be someone you know who has started their own food prep business to help healthy professionals who don’t have time to prepare their own meals. What this can do is help you get great meals that are delectable and fresh, ready for your mealtimes. While there are food subscriptions that can do a similar service, you get a more tailor-made option with a local option that creates dishes that are perfect for you. Order a healthy food subscription Healthy food subscriptions make life easy for a lot of career-minded individuals who want to start eating healthy but simply don’t have time to cook all the healthy food they need. While some may consider them pricey, they are a worthwhile investment for anyone who is looking to eat healthy food during this season, where you will be presented with plenty of unhealthy options. With your food subscription, you can make sure to eat healthy food on the days when you don’t have a holiday dinner or meal to attend. Meal prep If you’re not looking to spend that much money but you want to eat healthy food, skip paying someone to prepare your meals and dedicate a specific day of the week to meal prep for the rest of the week. While you may not have time to cook a whole meal or three every day, if you meal prep at the beginning of the week, you simply pop your prepared meal into the microwave or on the stove for a quick warmup, and voila, dinner (or lunch) is served. Plan ahead If you’re a lucky one with plenty of time to cook and use your nonstick cookware on a daily basis but you want to be sure that you’re balancing the richness and potentially unhealthy carbs and sugar of holiday meals, simply try to plan ahead. If you know you have a couple of dinners outside the home, plan ahead with your grocery shopping so that you get the best ingredients for healthy meals that don’t disappoint. Make a shopping list before you head to the store so that you’re ready to get foods and yummy snacks that are easy to make, as well as full of the nutritional value you need, so you can balance unhealthy and healthy foods throughout the holiday season. Don’t be hard on yourself At the end of the day, if you find that you eat a lot of foods and meals that you wouldn’t normally eat when sticking to your healthy diet, don’t be hard on yourself. It’s simply one month in your year where you may “get off your plan.” As long as you do your best to eat healthy food throughout the season, then it’s okay to enjoy some foods that you wouldn’t normally enjoy on a regular basis. Will you gain a couple of pounds? Maybe. But is that the end of the world? It sure isn’t. Enjoy the holiday season with those you love and care about. You only get one life. In Conclusion This is the season when people get stressed out about what they’re eating. While that is understandable if you typically stick to a healthy diet, let it be. There’s no issue with enjoying something sweet and ‘carbalicious’ every once in a while. January will be here in no time, along with your weight-loss resolutions.
