Having a clean and organized home with kids is possible! For one, it is inherent for children to make a mess. Second, you are already exhausted from taking care of your kids and other house chores. Hence, it is not surprising if you feel like your house will never be clutter-free. However, it does not mean that having an organized home is unachievable. In this post, we will share with you how you can have a clean and organized home even with kids. 1. Do some major purging If you want to maintain your house’s cleanliness, the first thing you need to do is to do some major purging. Chances are, the kids are growing fast. It’s easy for them to outgrow clothes, toys, or phases, which we think they need more than they do. At Planet Maids Cleaning Services NYC, we always tell clients that if they want to keep a tidy home, start doing a major purge. This includes children’s toys, old clothes, and the rest of your possessions at home. For clothes and books, you can use the KonMari method. Listen to your intuition on what possession you’re holding on to for sentimental reasons instead of necessity. 2. Get the kids involved If you want an extra hand to clean around the house, you can get the kids involved. It’s always a good idea to allow the kids to pitch in around the house at the end of the day. Having these skills will also benefit them throughout their lives. Also, if it makes your life so much easier, then the better. For example, you can teach them how to clean their rooms. Discuss with them every step of the cleaning process. This will allow them to learn how to keep things that belong in the room and put the rest away. Letting your kids help with the household chores, like disposing of their trash, keeps them busy while you clean as well. 3. Create a cleaning routine You might be a busy parent, and you might feel that you’re being pulled in a hundred different directions. That’s why you should set aside time to organize and declutter your calendar. Set up a regular cleaning routine. Ensure that you make it a habit as if you feel that something is missing if you don’t do them. Establishing daily cleaning routines also keeps clutter at bay so that your weekly cleaning schedule will take less time. Also, your weekly cleaning should be focused on actual deep cleaning instead of just tidying up. As your kids grow, they can gradually take on more responsibilities, like taking part in your weekly cleaning routine. You can also teach them how to create their daily cleaning schedules to keep their rooms clean and organized. 4. Put everything back in place Ideally, you should give every belonging a home. In decluttering your home, make sure that you place these items back in logical places and organize them depending on how often they are used. Ideally, try to group similar items and develop a designated space for these things. Using storage bins will serve as “home” for your belongings. This includes your house cleaning supplies, repair kits, batteries, nail polish, and so on. You can easily access these whenever you need them. It would help if you also thought about how often you use this particular item. Is it something you’re using every day, or is it something you can store out of sight? 5. Try the toy checkout system If the kids always leave toys lying around the house, try implementing a storage checkout system. Your child will get only one toy at a time. If they want to use a new one, they have to put back the previous toy before picking another one. Having this system prevents discarded toys from taking over your home. This also integrates a sense of responsibility to your kids. We understand that having kids could mean toys scattered everywhere. But when you follow the above-mentioned tips, you can achieve a clutter-free home while keeping your sanity intact. What other parenting tips do you do to keep your home organized even with kids?
