As homemakers we need to be mindful of how we spend our money.  Do you have to pay for water where you live? Our water bill has always been dreadful!  Although the last bill we received was $30 less than previous months.  Yay! That is worth celebrating.  Here are a few simple ways you can conserve water and save money on your next water bill!

  • Check your pipes and faucets for leaks.
  • If you suspect a leak, check your water meter.  Turn off the water.  {no dishes, clothes, flushing toilets, etc}  Go out and check your meter.  If it is still running, you have a leak.
  • Change out your showerheads.  Purchase and install a low-flow showerhead that uses less water.
  • Begin taking shorter showers.  Limit them to 5-6 minutes.
  • Always turn the water off when brushing your teeth.
  •  Be sure your dishwasher and clothes washer are completely full before starting them.
  • Do not wash your clothes on permanent press.  It uses 5 gallons more water than other cycles!
  • When washing dishes by hand, fill up the sink with water to rinse them.
  • Water your yard only when it needs to be watered.  Do not use timed sprinklers.
  • Collect rain water in a barrel.  Use it to water your garden.

By following these suggestions, you should see the results on your next water bill!
